What Sciatica Actually Is
Sciatica is what happens when the sciatic nerve gets irritated or compressed, usually by spinal misalignment or a disc problem. The pain radiates from the lower back into the hip, leg and sometimes the foot. It typically affects one side and often gets worse the longer you sit.
Common Symptoms
- Lower back pain
- Hip or buttock discomfort
- Numbness or tingling in the leg or foot
- Sharp pain that worsens when sitting
- Weakness or difficulty moving
Relieving Pressure On The Nerve
Treatment is aimed at taking pressure off the nerve and restoring normal movement. That may include chiropractic adjustments, traction, massage therapy and cold laser therapy to reduce inflammation and support healing. Left untreated, symptoms tend to become more persistent, so earlier is better. Call (540) 426-3066 to schedule.

“I came to Apple Wellness Center with severe lower back and hip pain. It would take the better part of half the day to get my back loose enough to be able to bend over or squat down. After meeting with Dr. Pasternack and his staff they recommended a program of cold laser therapy, deep tissue massage, and chiropractic adjustments. Within the first 4 weeks of the program I can say I am back to 90% of myself. Don't live with the pain any longer.”
Sciatica Relief FAQs
How do I know if it is sciatica or ordinary back pain?
Sciatica radiates. If pain travels below the knee, or you have numbness and tingling into the leg or foot, nerve involvement is likely and it should be evaluated.
Can sciatica go away without treatment?
Mild cases sometimes settle, but the underlying compression usually remains and symptoms return. Treating the cause is what prevents recurrence.
